Last summer, Brandon Leake made history by being the first spoken word artist on America’s Got Talent. At the end of the show, Simon Cowell told him, “I should not be judging you. I should be complimenting you.”

How often do you meet someone so good at their craft that they leave you no option but to compliment them? What does it take to be so good at your job that people can’t ignore you?

This article will provide you with a road map on becoming so good that no one can ignore you and become an unstoppable force.

1. Learn How to Get People’s Attention

“Attention is vitality. It connects you with others.” — Susan Sontag

According to Dr. Ned Hallowell, the acronym SEARCH holds the secret to grabbing people’s attention. It is a simple framework that is very powerful to remember any time you communicate with anyone.

  • Scare: Mainstream media have used this method to get people’s attention for a long time.
  • Excite / Educate: Humans like to look at moving and fast objects or anything that provides them with information that they care about.
  • Attack / Annoy / Amaze: Any unique information can grasp people’s attention, but so is annoying news. However, if someone attacks you, they can get your attention very fast.
  • Reassure / Reward: If you want people to pay attention, offer them $1000 or reassure them about something they are thinking about. People often look for confirmation and not information.
  • Charm: Charming people can get people’s attention very quickly.
  • Help: If you see someone who needs help and offers them support, you can get their attention quickly.

Action Step: Always use SEARCH to get people attention.

2. Learn How to Hold People’s Attention

“One of the greatest gifts you can give to anyone is the gift of attention” — Jim Rohn

Dr. Hallowell states, “If you want to hold people’s, you have to SIN correctly.” SIN stands for structure, interaction, and novelty.

  • Structure: You need a structure to hold people’s attention, but not too much structure. It gives humans the comfort that they are looking for to pay attention longer.
  • Interaction: Social media mastered this concept. They gave people enough structure and interactive platforms to hold people’s attention for a long time. Tik Tok is using the SIN concept correctly.
  • Novelty: You can provide people with an exciting and intriguing twist to keep their attention longer. Michael Jackson was terrific at holding his audience’s attention using this technique.

Action Step: It is okay to use SIN to keep people’s attention.

3. Be a Professional, No Amateur

Amateurs have a goal. Professionals have a process. — fs.blog

Amateurs do good work when they feel like it, and professionals do a great job regardless of how they feel.

Kobe Bryant was a true professional on the court and off the court. He was obsessed with his craft and business. He wanted to be remembered as an overachiever, “To think of me as a person that’s overachieved, that would mean a lot to me. That means I put a lot of work in and squeezed every ounce of juice out of this orange that I could.”

Off the court, he wanted to be a professional businessman. So he texted business leaders at all hours of the day to pick their brains. He took his business as seriously as his game. He believed that small details are the difference between six or eight-figure business.

Kobe was a professional who was consistent all the time. He did not want to cut corners or take shortcuts. He wanted to do the work.

Professionals have bad days, but you won’t know it. When they feel bad, they dig deep, push harder, and sometimes rest better than most people.

Action Step: Be a professinal and do the Work

4. Ask Who Not How

Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. — Helen Keller

Do not focus on how to get things done.

Focus on who can help you to accomplish your goals faster. The possibility of you reaching the finish line improves dramatically when you stop focusing on HOW and focus on WHO.

WHO can be a mentor, an employee, a partner, a friend, and maybe a neighbor who knows one thing you need to learn.

Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy wrote a book called Who Not How, and they identified four benefits of following the How Not Who Framework.

  • Freedom of Time: instead of wasting your time learning how to do more things, delegate your weaknesses and focus your time in your strength zone.
  • Freedom of Money: When you spend more time in your strength zone, you will be more focused on your will spend less time on nonproductive activities.
  • Freedom of Relationships: You will become a better who for others, find better mentors to help you get to the next level, and you will create better strategic partners to collaborate with.
  • Freedom of Purpose: When you delegate your weaknesses, you will focus on your strength and purpose. You will be able to focus your time, energy, and money on achieving your purpose.

Action Step: Who can help you get to your finish line?

5. Embrace the Boredom

It is not enough to accept boredom, you must embrace it. It is only when you have completely embraced it that you can go beyond it. — Albert Low

To be an unstoppable force, you must be dedicated to your daily routine. You must be able to survive the boredom of showing up every day. Doing the Work every day can be boring because it is repetitive.

However, mastering your craft is exciting. It gives you a competitive edge in a crowded marketplace.

When things get tough, always remember your purpose, and fall in love with the process.

Action Step: To be so good, embrace the boredom, but don’t be boring.

6. Stand Up For Something

When you believe in something, stand up for it, even if everyone is sitting. — Natasha Friend

Stand up for something and not against everything.

Jeff Henderson wrote a great book called “Know What You’re For.” He believes that standing up for something makes you interested in other subjects and makes you more interesting.

When people know that you are for them, they become for you. You won’t win people over until you engage their hearts, and you engage their hearts when you stand up for something worth standing for.

Action Step: Figure out what you stand for?

7. Invest in Yourself

The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself. The more you learn, the more you’ll earn. — Warren Buffett

If you want to grow faster, you need to start investing in yourself.

Investment in your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth is a must. But, unfortunately, most people spend a lot of money feeding their bodies junk food and feeding their brains garbage.

These habits block their personal and professional development and drain their mental energy.

Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. Investing in yourself can take different forms: learning a new language, mastering a new skill, taking a walk, visiting a museum, reading a book, hiring a coach, or repairing a broken relationship.

Action Step: Invest in yourself.
